There has been a fine series on Aljazeera, The Forbidden Reel, with films rescued from the Taliban, showing film extracts back from the last years of the Kingdom of Afghanistan, the Communist coup d'état in 1973, the Soviet invasion, and the Mujahideen until the arrival of the Americans.
